The upcoming Lonely Castle in the Mirror (Kagami no Kojo) anime adaptation from director Keiichi Hara has released a teaser trailer. A-1 Pictures is animating the film, which will be released in Japan in the fourth quarter of this year.
Hara is known as the “master of crying scenes” for his direction in several anime series and films, including films from Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan franchises. He directed other anime series and films including Esper Mami (1987-1989), Colorful (2010), Miss Hokusai (2015), and Birthday Wonderland (2019). He also directed a Japanese live-action film titled Hajimari no Michi (2013), a biographical film about the filmmaker Keisuke Kinoshita.
The film is based on the 2017 Japanese novel by Mizuki Tsujimura. It was first published by Poplar Publishing in May 2017. The novel received a manga adaptation, illustrated by Tomo Taketomi, which was then serialized under Shueisha’s Ultra Jump from June 2019 to February 2022.
Doubleday has published the novel in English for North America, while Penguin Books published it in English for the United Kingdom:
