My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU anime revealed a special 10th-anniversary visual during a special AnimeJapan 2023 stage earlier today. The anime, also known as OreGairu, promised various activities for its 10th anniversary this year.
The latest installment of the franchise is the My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax OVA, which is coming out on April 27 bundled with a limited edition of the new Nintendo Switch/PS4 game based on the franchise.
The latest SNAFU OVA revealed the first promotional video in January of 2023, along with a release date. The series is based on Wataru Watari’s Oregairu, Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru light novel, which was licensed as My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, as I Expected in English. The original light novel was serialized from 2011 to 2021. The light novel was illustrated by Ponkan8. The series has two manga adaptations titled My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, as I Expected -Monologue- and My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, as I Expected @comic, as well as a 4-koma manga series Yahari 4-koma demo Ore no Seishun Rabu Kome wa machigatteiru. A light novel series focusing on Yui Yuigahama is also currently ongoing.
Studio Brain’s Base animated the first season of the adaptation, which was followed by an OVA episode. In the Spring of 2015, the second season, titled My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU TOO!, premiered. The second season was animated by studio feel. and it featured different character designs, but it was a direct continuation of the plot. The same studio animated the OVA that premiered in 2016 and the final and third season, titled My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax. The final season premiered in 2020.
Yen Press licensed the original light novel in English and describes the plot of OreGairu as:
Hachiman Hikigaya is a cynic. “Youth” is a crock, he believes–a sucker’s game, an illusion woven from failure and hypocrisy. But when he turns in an essay for a school assignment espousing this view, he’s sentenced to work in the Service Club, an organization dedicated to helping students with problems in their lives! How will Hachiman the Cynic cope with a job that requires–gasp!–optimism?
