Shonen Jump revealed a special trailer for Naruto Uzumaki’s birthday (October 10) featuring highlights from the manga. The Naruto series is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a new four-episode special anime, which was recently delayed due to quality concerns.
The Naruto franchise is based on a manga written by Masashi Kishi. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in September 1999 and ran for 15 years, until November 2014. A total of 72 volumes have been published. Studio Pierrot animated the adaptation, which premiered in October 2002. The anime was followed by a sequel titled Naruto Shippuden, which had a total of 500 episodes. The franchise spawned multiple games, merchandise, and 11 movies.
Pierrot also animated the adaptation of the Boruto sequel manga, originally written by Ukyo Kodachi. Naruto author, Masashi Kishimoto later took over the story, which features Ikemoto’s illustrations. The manga started in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2016 but moved to V Jump in 2019. The Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime adaptation began broadcasting in April 2017. The story follows Naruto’s son, Boruto.
VIZ Media licensed the original manga and describes the plot as:
Twelve years ago the Village Hidden in the Leaves was attacked by a fearsome threat. A nine-tailed fox spirit claimed the life of the village leader, the Hokage, and many others. Today, the village is at peace and a troublemaking kid named Naruto is struggling to graduate from Ninja Academy. His goal may be to become the next Hokage, but his true destiny will be much more complicated. The adventure begins now!
