Netflix Postpones Release of Lookism Anime

The upcoming anime adaptation of Lookism webtoon has been postponed from its previously announced November 6 release date. The anime is a Netflix original and the streaming platform announced the delay, while promising new information on the release soon.

The postponement of Lookism, a popular adaptation of a Korean webtoon by Park Tae-joon, comes days after South Korea has declared a national period of mourning following the Halloween stampede incident in the Itaewon district at Seoul. Nikkei Asia reports that the incident has left 154 dead, wth 149 people reported to have sustained injuries.

President Yoon Suk-yeol declared the national period of mourning from October 30 to November 5. Following this, entertainment companies and major broadcasting companies in the country have stated that they will suspend music and entertainment programming during the period.

Netflix describes the Lookism anime as:
Currently serialized on LINE Manga and Naver WEBTOON, “Lookism” follows the protagonist as he works hard to live life against the backdrop of various social issues. It began serialization in 2014 and has 8.7 billion views globally. Just like the original webtoon, the story of the animated series “Lookism” also deals with the subtle lookism and materialism present in the lives of people living in modern society. Unique character designers have breathed life into the main characters of the original manga, giving them vivid voices, dynamic direction and gorgeous effects. Through fascinating episodes with a slightly different feel compared to the original manga, this series will deliver excitement and new discoveries. Enjoy the story of Park Hyeong-seok as he overcomes diverse encounters and conflicts and grows to fulfill his dreams.
