OLDCODEX Is Officially Disbanding

OLDCODEX, the Japanese rock band, is officially disbanding. Their last song will be the theme song for the Free! Movie: The Final Stroke – Kouhen, which is coming on April 22, 2022.

The band apologized and thanked the fans for their continued support over the past 12 years. The official announcement also states that details about their final song will come later, but that it will be included in the movie’s soundtrack. The official fan merch stores will also shut down in March 2022.

The news about OLDCODEX disbanding came as a shock to many fans, who took to Twitter to express their feelings.

Currently, the band consists out of Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Ta_2), YORKE, Ryo Yamagata, Taizo Nakamura, and Shinji Omura. On August 30th, the band announced that Suzuki is on hiatus and that his future activities in the band were under question. The announcement came a month after Suzuki’s alleged affair came to light. The singer and voice actor apparently cheated on his wife, popular singer LiSA.

Recently it was revealed that Tatsuhisa Suzuki won’t be voicing Anos Voldigoad in season 2 of The Misfit of Demon Academy.

OLDCODEX, formed in 2009, performed a number of anisongs over the years. In addition to Free! franchise, they also sang the God Eater opening, Servamp opening, as well as some of the Kuroko’s Basketball theme songs.
