One Piece is back with episode 992, and we got some more information on who Yamato is and the connection to Oden. The episode started with Luffy agreeing to hear out Yamato’s story, but they couldn’t agree on how many minutes he’d give. We then cut back to Kozuki making a display of Momonosuke, while Robin, Jimbei and the samurai all struggle to maintain their disguises. We even get to hear Robin try a gangster style speech! The two decide to hold it in, and keep faking laughter with the rest of the attendees. Meanwhile, the boy declares that Wano will open even if they execute him, which shows quite some development for his character already.
On the other side, Law manages to get to the back of Onigashima with the rest of the Akazaya samurai. They face strong currents, but the Polar Tang manages to get through it. They successfully reach the island, and Law uses his Room to get the fighters across. Just as they transport to the island, Marco brings Izo and Cat Viper, and they reunite ahead of the clash with Kaido. Marco leaves to check a ‘weird shadow’ he saw, and we’ll see what that was about in some future episode. Going back to Kozuki’s side, we then see Kaido make an appearance. He declares another announcement along with Momonosuke’s execution, and they get a cool shot together, with Momonosuke in the background.
Finally, we go back to Luffy and Yamato. They’ve moved to an attic and Luffy compromised to give away 5 minutes. We learn more about why Yamato looks up to Oden after reading his journal, and that she’s actually Kaido’s daughter who decided to ‘become a man’ because Oden was one. She says she’ll join their fight, and notes that Luffy wasn’t serious against her before. We already knew her face from the WE ARE ONE episode, but Luffy’s reaction was new and completely understandable! Saori Hayami continues to do an awesome job as her voice, and you can read more on her interview about the role.
