Sanrio Character Ranking 2022 Contest Reveals Winners

Cinnamoroll is the most loved Sanrio character for the third year in a row, as revealed in Sanrio Character Ranking 2022. According to Sanrio’s data, 26,467,259 people voted to pick this year’s winner and Cinnamoroll managed to get 2,896,171. The 2022 awards were held with the “colorful” theme and the results were announced on June 12.

The ranking lists a total of 80 characters. The top 10 best-ranked Sanrio characters worldwide are:

  1. Cinnamoroll
  2. Pompompurin
  3. KUROMI
  4. Pochacco
  5. My Melody
  6. Hello Kitty
  7. Little Twin Stars
  8. Hangyodon
  9. Cogimyun
  10. Tuxedosam

Cinnamoroll also ranked first in Mainland China, the United States, Brazil, Italy, France, Australia, and Singapore. The character, who recently turned 20, “left” a message for the fans:
Thank you for ranking me in first place in my 20th anniversary year! I’m so excited to keep on making wonderful memories together with you all!

Hello Kitty won in 2019; that was the last time Cinnamoroll didn’t rank first. Miyuki Okumura designed the characters for the series by Sanrio, which eventually evolved into two side stories: Cinnamoangels and Lloromannic. Viz Media licensed the original manga as Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll and describes the plot of the first volume as:
Oh no! Milk has disappeared through a mysterious door and only Cinnamoroll can save him! Will he find the courage to help his friend and still make it back to Café Cinnamon in time for tea?

The character was also the star of the 2007 movie Cinnamon the Movie by studio MADHOUSE and the short web anime Cinnamon no Parade, which was the 10th-anniversary project. In addition to animated works, Kadokawa released a novel titled Cinnamoroll: Cinnamon’s Wonderland Trip written by Utako Yoshino and illustrated by Yuki Kiriga.
