Super Mario Animated Movie Reveals Second Trailer and Visual

The upcoming Super Mario animated movie has revealed the second trailer and visual ahead of its April 7 premiere date in the United States and April 28 in Japan. The film is being produced by Illumination and Nintendo, while Universal Pictures will distribute it. The official title for the movie is The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and it’s the third feature film adaptation of the popular video game franchise. The trailer was live-streamed with Shigeru Miyamoto’s message: the Nintendo director stated that the movie was almost finished.

Princess Peach will be voiced by Anya Taylor Joy and Donkey Kong will be voiced by Seth Rogan. The two actors shared messages with the fans. Peach was introduced for the first time in the new trailer:

The previously revealed voice cast for the movie includes:

  • Chris Pratt as Mario
  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
  • Charlie Day as Luigi
  • Jack Black as Bowser
  • Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
  • Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong
  • Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong
  • Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek
  • Sebastian Maniscalco as Foreman Spike

The Japanese cast was also announced. It features Mamoru Miyano as Mario, Tasuku Hatanaka as Luigi, Arisa Shida as Princess Peach, Kenta Miyake as Bowser, Tomokazu Seki as Toad. You can hear the Japanese trailer in the video below (around the 5:30 mark):

Prior film adaptations for Super Mario were the 1986 anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! and the 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros. The animated Super Mario film is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with screenplay by Matthew Fogel.
