“That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” episode 48 — the finale — is finally here! After all the buildup of the season, Rimuru finally beats up Clayman. It definitely delivers a satisfying end for the villain.
Clayman is pathetic to the bitter end. Rimuru easily devours his ultimate attacks using Beelzebub and proceeds to punch the wits out of him. The fact that Rimuru uses Thought Acceleration on Clayman means that he really suffered for what probably “felt like an eternity.” When he realized he wouldn’t revive and started begging for his life — ahh, music to my ears. In the end, Clayman proved that he really was a clown all along. (Ba-dum-tss)
Although the battle was a bit short for my liking, it was undeniably an epic moment. Rimuru was an absolute badass! Plus, the animation shifted to a fluid and beautiful animation. With the opening song added over, I was chilling with excitement!
The rest of “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” episode 48 proceeds pretty casually. Tea and wine are served while the Demon Lords exchange conversations. It’s hilarious how Veldora and Milim accidentally reveal the maid as Luminus — the true Vampire Demon Lord, Valentine. She has beautiful heterochromatic eyes and wears a lovely gothic appeal. Hands down, I am absolutely in love with her.
We also discover more about Kazaream because of Clayman’s careless namedrop. He was the Demon Lord whom Leon killed and took over. If he really is revived, ( which we know he is), Rimuru must remain careful. Aside from this, Frey and Carrion decide to step down as Demon Lords and instead serve Milim! Her panic reactions are adorably cute and funny. Frey’s request was very wholesome but Carrion’s had me laughing. She did blast away his capital city, after all.
Before the banquet adjourns, the Demon Lords — who are now eight in total — must decide on a new name for themselves. I relate strongly to this because it takes me forever make a name or caption. We all know though too well that Rimuru has a natural talent for this. Thus, the name ” The Eight Stars, Octagram” is born! It has a dramatic flair to it too.
All it took for Rimuru was some teasing from Guy, which was fun to watch. That energy and tension! Guy’s relaxed, confident, smug, and forward character is so interesting. (Although honestly, I feel a bit robbed. 8bit, where was the flustered Rimuru and Guy’s ear-bite!? I guess I’ll only have the novel and manga to comfort me now.)
Lastly, Laplace attempts to infiltrate Valentine’s domain again. Instead, he finds Hinata and aborts the mission. Roy Valentine arrives and angers Laplace when he insults Clayman’s death. I was frightened watching the whole development. Not only was it a brutal kill, but a disturbing one as he laughs and cries over Clayman’s death. After this, we can establish that Laplace is someone not to mess with. It’s like my childhood trauma from Killlua (HunterXHunter) all over again.
“That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” episode 48 ends as Rimuru returns back home to Tempest. He is warmly welcomed by all of his comrades. We also see glimpses of the beastmen’s reunion with Carrion, Diablo’s journey to Falmuth, and even Rimuru’s students. My favorite is the emotional Rigurd because that is exactly how I feel. Ahh, what a ride we’ve had.
All in all, this was a fantastic season. It did start slow with all the meetings in the first half, but it ended awesomely with the Walpurgis developments. I loved how they discussed tactics and strategy, plus the responsibilities of great power. And then when the battle began, we got to see everyone in action! Every week was full of hype. My favorite, of course, is when Walpurgis commenced. I mean — Rimuru crashed the banquet, beat up a villain, copied the spell of the strongest person, names the gang, and leaves. Epic, right?
Honesty, I was cheering that Rimuru would beat Clayman up some more. Let’s all admit it, he seemed pretty weak compared to everyone in Rimuru’s army. Shion alone could have handled him. Anyway, I also want to commend Clayman’s VA because his character really brought out the best (and annoying) in this arc! Such masterful acting.
It saddens me that nine months of continuous slime content has come to an end. Nevertheless, I’m so thankful. Slime is so unique among other shows. The overpowering protagonist, interesting characters, and the world-building — all of it has been an absolute treat to watch. I love how everyone’s strengths and abilities continue to surprise me and make me feel sort of proud. I will miss Tensura Tuesdays, but I also cannot wait to see them soon. That’s right — a movie was announced! I have tears of happiness.
