After multiple postponements, The Deer King movie is now scheduled to premiere on February 4. The film also revealed a new visual and trailer. The Deer King was originally scheduled to premiere on September 18, 2020, and was delayed again on September 10, 2021, due to COVID-19.
Production I.G. is producing the film with Masashi Ando as the director. You can check out the new visual below:
Anime Limited licensed the film for release in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Europe. GKIDS is distributing the movie for a North American release in early 2022, screening it in both Japanese with English subtitles and an English dub. The new trailer is available below:
The main cast of The Deer King includes Shinichi Tsutsumi as Van, Ryōma Takeuchi as Hossal, and Anne Watanabe as Sae. milet is performing the theme song of the film titled “One Reason”.
Masashi Ando, who is directing the movie at Production I.G, is also designing the characters. He worked on titles such as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Your Name. Taku Kishimoto is in charge of the script. Harumi Fuuki is composing the music with Hiromi Kikuta as the sound director.
The Deer King is an anime film adaptation of Nahoko Uehashi’s fantasy novel series The Deer King. In September 2014, Kadokawa released the novels in two volumes at the same time and then republished the series in four volumes in June and July 2017.
