To Your Eternity Episode 20 – A Grandma's Wish

“To Your Eternity” episode 20, the season finale is finally out! Fushi finds his way back to his beloved Grandman Pioran. Honestly, this was a really nice way to wrap up this amazing show. The emotions it had were just so pure, I myself couldn’t help but cry. The episode is titled, “Echoes.”

I really found it adorable how Fushi went back and forth checking on Pioran. Even though he wanted to leave Pioran, he was constantly worrying about her well-being. When they finally met, it was a wholesome and emotional moment! As the episode continues, I fall in love some more with their grandma-grandson relationship as they travel. The last time we saw normal life was in Takunaha, so it’s really nostalgic to see it again. Fushi has a full sense of self now, plus he has his sleeves and pants rolled up which is fun.

My heart is so full for Fushi, especially when Pioran says how fulfilling her life has been. It’s so happy to see them both happy. Even Fushi becomes hopeful that he can feel fulfilled someday. However, just as The Beholder warned, the old woman’s health begins to decline. It’s really heartbreaking to see a person you love disappear in front of you. Nevertheless, Fushi remains by her side, taking care of Grandma Pioran with a smile.

Suddenly, Pioran returns to herself and expresses her thanks for meeting Fushi. As soon as the music stopped, I knew I had reason to be scared. The grandma weakly calls out to The Beholder and asks to be reborn as something useful for Fushi.

The next moments in “To Your Eternity” episode 20 are absolutely heart-aching. My goodness, this is really a well-crafted series. I applaud the entire execution — the acting, animation, and music especially — all of it transformed me into an emotional blob.

Especially when it reveals that the girl in the opening song is actually a young Pioran walking to paradise. (AAAHH! Goosebumps and feels!) I cannot find the words to describe this sadness but when Fushi started to weep, I too, broke down with the waterworks.

For a moment, I kind of reconnected again with the melancholic storytelling from the first episode. Something about this finale carries just as much weight as the pilot episode did. Perhaps it’s the dramatic music or the noticeable parallels, but I know for sure that one reason is Fushi’s “meeting and parting” with his special companion. In this case, Pioran wasn’t just a nameless boy — she was family. She’s been Fushi’s mentor since his early days. To go through that sort of grief is beyond words.

Again, the series stirs elements of love, loss, and grief. “To Your Eternity” episode 20 wraps up this unique journey in the most epic and heartfelt way. The finale doesn’t leave me with much pain though, maybe because the noble Pioran gives her last piece of loving advice — “What is your dream? Do what you want to do, like I did!”

I’m not gonna lie, this made me sob some more! This grandma’s love is so pure and moving. Wouldn’t you agree that she was an amazing gift in Fushi’s life? Thinking about her passing makes it all the more sorrowful, but also, makes you feel grateful. Fushi whispers his thanks as he remembers her fondly. The immortal walks on in his journey, knowing that he too, was happy.

Watching this anime has been an interesting experience. It’s surely one to remember. I was honestly sad that it’s over, but thankfully, a season 2 was announced! I’m so curious to know what happens next in Fushi’s journey. The Beholder’s narration of this episode was compelling too, but the time skip Fushi reveal was the most interesting!
