To Your Eternity Episode 8 — Fushi and Gugu's Bond

“To Your Eternity” episode 8 is here with another sad but wholesome story. Fushi continues to learn from his “older brother”. However, Gugu discovers something about himself and runs away. Will Fushi be alright? The episode is titled, “Monster Brothers.”

To Your Eternity Episode 8 — Rean joins the shop

“To Your Eternity” episode 8 begins as we see Rean hoping to work at the booze shop. The old man happily accepts but Gugu is unsure whether he feels happy or miserable about it. While doing chores, Gugu experiments on Fushi’s immortal abilities. We discover that Fushi can only replicate things he is hurt with, like a spear or knife. However, being the child that he is, Fushi becomes upset. He dislikes pain, after all. Gugu tells him to “say something if you want it to stop,” and Fushi learns another thing.

We also finally learn why Gugu’s stomach is bloated. It turns out that the old Booze Man put a liquor organ inside Gugu’s body! Honestly, this is just horrifying. It’s understandable that Gugu runs away after discovering this. Although he tries to work with the kind Master on the fields again, everyone calls him a “monster.” He also attempts to sell the ring from Rean, but eventually gives it to his beat-up brother on the street. Personally, I think this is a heartbreaking scene. Gugu is too pure for this cruel world.

Meanwhile, Fushi tries to manage the house by himself. It’s really silly how he knows what to do but not how to do it. He fails at cooking, cleaning, and even working on the fields. Pioran refuses to teach Fushi, even after he asks and makes mudballs like March used to. Rean also tries to convince everyone to look for Gugu but to no avail.

“To Your Eternity” episode 8 comes to a close as we find Gugu in the forest. He comes to terms with his “monster” life that might never change for the better. Suddenly, he is kidnapped by some men but fortunately, Fushi comes to the rescue. Gugu becomes emotional about the fact that Fushi came looking for him despite being afraid of the forest. They cheer — hooray for monsters!

Appreciation for Gugu

All in all, I think this was a nice episode. It’s not as intense as the previous ones but I can definitely say that I still enjoyed the subtle moments here and there. “To Your Eternity” episode 8 made me appreciate Gugu’s character so much. He just wants to live an honest life and earn money for himself. Despite everything he endures, Gugu is still so optimistic and kind.

I personally think that the farmer is one the reasons why Gugu is such a good person. The farmer is kind and loving. It’s a shame though that he has a mean son. I also think the part where Gugu throws his mask away is a freeing moment. Especially when he walks away from his brother too. It’s so simple yet powerful, and ultimately, sad because Gugu leaves his “human” life behind.

To Your Eternity Episode 8 — Gugu leaves his brother after giving the ring

It is really messed up for the old Booze Man to experiment on Gugu’s body. However, I can’t help but notice that just a minute before, Gugu was also doing experiments with Fushi. It’s similar that they both said the exact words —“it won’t kill you”. Of course, it also contrasts in ways that the Booze Man’s experiment is definitely crazier and more intrusive. Poor Gugu.

After feeling bad for Gugu the entire episode, the ending comes to save us from our misery. The monster brothers reunite! For the first time in “To Your Eternity”, I am happy. It was what Fushi said that made me really emotional. He finally learns to have courage! I think this is relatable for everyone. We’re afraid, but here anyway.

To Your Eternity Episode 8 — Hooray for monsters!

I am glad that Fushi and Gugu have each other. They’re monster brothers who look out for each other! Plus, Fushi’s growth is really good. The time he spends living with Gugu, Pioran, and the Booze Man, as well as his friendship with Rean, is giving him a lot of stimulation. I’m excited for what’s next to come. I’m hoping for good things but the preview shows a shadow lurking. Could the enemy be back again? Whatever it is, I’m going to hold on and savor the happiness I got from this episode.
