To Your Eternity Episode 9 — The Calm Before the Storm

“To Your Eternity” episode 9 is out! Fushi, Gugu, and Rean connect and make deeper bonds. The stronger the stimulation he receives, the deeper it will be engraved in Fushi’s memory. However, a shadow is lurking somewhere. The episode is titled, “Deep Memories.”

To Your Eternity Episode 9 — The Monster Brothers

“To Your Eternity” episode 9 begins with Fushi and Gugu having fun together by scaring people. They even have their own fist bumps too! It’s all very silly until suddenly, Gugu faints from hunger. Fushi becomes very worried. Fortunately, he discovers that he can create food from memory.

After Gugu eats his fill, the monster brothers continue to talk. Gugu explains to Fushi about what becoming “empty” means—death. He also makes an insightful discovery about how Fushi can not only recreate things from physical pain, but also from emotional pain too. Thus, all of the “empty” vessels that Fushi turns into. Gugu also tells Fushi that if he dies and becomes upset, maybe Fushi can become him. At least then, Gugu will know that Fushi will always think of him.

We also discover a bit about Gugu’s childhood. The happy family Gugu thought he had were actuality their employers. Now that his brother is gone, Gugu is all alone. However, Gugu tells Fushi how grateful and happy he is to have him. He slowly loses consciousness…

Everything is still for a while until suddenly…Rean arrives and Gugu wakes up surprised! Honestly, I was scared and worried for Gugu. He really had me for a moment there! Rean tries to convince him to come back home but Gugu refuses. Fushi heads out to look for Gugu’s mask.

While waiting, Gugu and Rean get to know each other better. Gugu still refuses to show his face even after Rean shows her wound. Honestly, Rean’s wound is nothing compared to Gugu’s face! However, she becomes hurt by Gugu’s mean comments and explains that her family treats her terribly. The two kids go on disagreeing but eventually apologize to each other.

Rean insists for Gugu to come out—with or without a mask, monster or human—because Gugu is still Gugu. Rean gives him her mask, and they head out to look for Fushi. So far, “To Your Eternity” episode 9 is very calm and wholesome.

To Your Eternity Episode 9 — Rean and Gugu’s wounds

Meanwhile with Fushi, The Beholder suddenly appears. Fushi, very adorably if I may say so, throws fruit at his creator. The Beholder warns Fushi about the enemy. At the town, a thug attempts to bring Rean back to her parents, but Gugu saves her. The boy realizes that the mask was actually Rean’s, and that she ran away from home to be free.

After the three of them reunite, Gugu finally decides to go back home. In the forest, they come across Rean’s maid who also attempts to bring her home. Fushi expertly distracts the maid, when suddenly, a Knocker attacks Fushi. The episode comes to a close as Gugu helps Fushi but finds that the creepy Knocker has already stolen Fushi-March’s vessel.

A Peaceful and Nice Episode

The highlight of “To Your Eternity” episode 9 is definitely about the bonds between Fushi, Gugu, and Rean. I’m honestly happy that they have each other’s company. They’ve learned to become a bit selfless for each other, despite their personal struggles. It’s really sweet. I know this is fiction but I think at this point, I’m already too emotionally invested.

I really enjoyed watching Gugu and Fushi playing pranks on the townspeople. Meer was also fun because he is literally a furball of cuteness. My favorite however, would be the “distraction” scene with Fushi-March. It was so unexpected and hilarious. Can you imagine Fushi running down at full speed and just throwing himself at the Maid?

To Your Eternity Episode 9 — Cute chibi of Gugu and Fushi

While “To Your Eternity” episode 9 is another peaceful episode, it still has a lot of serious and sad moments. Young Gugu discovers that his “family” isn’t actually real. It’s sad to imagine how Gugu felt like then. It’s also heartbreaking to think about how his brother made ends meet to keep them both alive.

We also get to know Gugu and Rean more in this episode. It’s obvious that they contrast each other—their problems and situations are totally different, but they’re both as valid as the other. Just because Gugu had it worse, it doesn’t mean Rean’s problem doesn’t matter. After all, they are both kids who feel helpless and are just finding their way.

I’m curious to know what will happen next, especially if Rean discovers the truth. When Gugu said “You’ll hate me if I tell you…,” it really made me emotional. Oh Rean, if only you knew! Hats off to her though for really trying.

To Your Eternity Episode 9 — Rean and Gugu caring about each other

Fushi’s growth again is just really fascinating again this week. Although The Beholder says that Fushi hasn’t learned anything to use for fighting, I disagree and say that Fushi is more intelligent now. Plus, he discovered a new skill — unlimited food!

I am curious though about Fushi’s ability to detect emotions from others. Like how he saw Gugu’s chest hurt, for example. It somehow also explains how he repeatedly said “It Hurts” and “Thank You” with Oniguma before.

Overall, “To Your Eternity” episode 9 is a wholesome and heartwarming episode. (Of course, with a bit of heartache here and there.) The bond between Gugu, Fushi, and Rean is a really nice development. However, our peace has suspiciously went on for a long time. I am again worried and scared, but nevertheless excited, for the next episode as the main plot continues on. With his new knowledge, will Fushi be able to win the battle against the scary Knocker?
