The 2021 year in anime delivered a great variety of beautiful and catchy anime ending themes. Many anime fans have been streaming the full versions of their favorites on music platforms, and in Spring 2021 we began collecting data to see which openings and endings from each season were streamed the most on Spotify. In that season, “彼は誰時” (Ashiato) by the peggies from My Hero Academia Season 5 Cour 1 was the most streamed ending. In Summer, it was “Tokyo Wonder.” by Nakimushi from Tokyo Revengers, and in Fall, it was “Oz.” by yama from Ranking of Kings.
Now let’s take a look at which anime endings were the most streamed throughout the entire year.
Note that not all endings from 2021 have been officially released on Spotify, and we excluded shorts anime and kids anime. All streams are counted as of January 17, 2022, and rounded to the nearest thousand. Shows like Jujutsu Kaisen that began in Winter 2020 and had additional endings that were released and used in 2021 have those respective songs included, but not any tracks that were used in 2020.
With respect to the high number of songs combined, we are posting rankings for the top streamed opening and endings of the year separately, and you can view the rankings for openings here. So without further ado, we present to you the top-streamed endings of 2021!
“優しい彗星” (Yasashii Suisei) by YOASOBI from Beastars 2nd Season was the most streamed ending of the year at over 38 million streams! The anime also won the most streamed opening of 2021 which is by the same artist. Taking #2 is “衝撃” (Shock) by Yuko Ando from Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 1 and #3 is the song “give it back” by Cö shu Nie from Jujutsu Kaisen.
