The first episode of the new rom-com series The Duke of Death and His Maid finally premiered and here’s why you should watch it. Despite the fact of being a full CGI series, do not forget the concept and beauty of the story it gives. Just like how the old saying goes, “don’t judge a book by its cover.”
One factor that stands out in the series is the characters. A gloomy, serious aristocrat who has a curse of death – any living thing he touches instantly dies. And the playful, gorgeous maid Alice, who likes teasing her master, the duke of death.
It was clearly stated that anything the duke touches instantly dies; yet his maid Alice, never stops teasing him no matter how it’s done. Whether it is an indirect kiss, naughty pranks, or seducing her duke, Alice never misses out on a chance. Alice sure does love teasing her duke, but that just proves the fact she loves him.

The show not only provides playful characters but a bittersweet story as well. You might think this series is all fun-and-games; mostly it is, but it also has its own serious plot.
First of all, the main character’s cursed by a witch that everything he touches instantly dies. And why is he cursed? What happened in the past? Watch the series and you’ll eventually find out.
And because the duke is cursed, his family treated him as an outcast and sent him to their villa far from town. Everyone, including his childhood friend and his family, was scared of him and looked at him as a monster. That is the bitter part of the bittersweet story.
But despite being treated as an outcast, he never felt alone because his maid is always looking after her. Alice greets him every morning, she also prepares his meal, and most of all, she always accompanies her duke. Everyone needs a maid like Alice. And that is the sweet part of the bittersweet story.
The anime series The Duke of Death and His Maid is an anime CGI series produced by J.C. Staff along with Shogakukan Music & Digital Entertainment who is in charge of the CGI. But never judge the show just because it’s CGI, because the production team poured their hearts into creating the most wholesome rom-com series of the season.
Let’s admit it, we’ve all had our doubts regarding the show since it’s made of CG. And that’s the more reason why you should give it a try! Conquer those doubts of yours and prove yourself wrong about the series. I’d say the production committee did their very best just by watching it.
