Zombieland Saga: Revenge Episode 11 — Saga Sinks!?

“Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 11 is out! Franchouchou and Kotaro continue their fight for Saga. However, Saga is hit by a dreadful disaster. It’s distressing but Franchouchou’s actions are wholesome. I did not expect to be so emotional but this episode just hits differently after everything that has happened. Go Saga!

Zombieland Saga: Revenge — The Mansion

“Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 11 begins with the morning after the typhoon. The girls are shocked to discover that the mansion is floating on the sea! Unfortunately, the mansion collapses to rubble after they drift back to shore. Costumes, instruments, their home—everything is gone. Meanwhile, Kotaro and Jofuku are stranded inside the bar as water starts to violently flood in.

The girls, now with pale makeup, go to the shelter. There is no opening song which makes “Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 11 even more dramatic. Saga is a disaster— streets are flooded, houses are destroyed, and people are gathering at the evacuation areas. It’s a difficult situation for everyone. Thus, the zombie girls try to help however they can. They assist in making food, helping with labor, and in taking care of the children.

Despite having no music or good make-up, Franchouchou also sings and dances. Even Lily performs her scat song again! It’s a very wholesome moment because they cheer up everyone. The reporter Okoba is surprised to see Franchouchou and realizes that the girls are working hard on their own.

Kotaro Won’t Give Up

“Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 11 continues on as we discover that two days have passed. Kotaro and Jofoku are still inside the flooded bar. The sick gramps says that the curse is striking them. Kotaro refuses to die. It’s a terrible situation but the two of them are hanging (or floating?) in there. Finally, the policeman rescues them and Kotaro quickly rushes to look for Franchouhou. A dramatic insert song starts to play as he tirelessly runs around the devastated Saga. It’s a really emotional minute because the song perfectly conveys how Kotaro won’t give up on Saga—even if it’s a never-ending battle.

Zombies Aren’t Scary

Meanwhile, at the shelter, the zombie girls are horrified that their makeup is wearing off. The girls make Ozaki masks but they quickly break onstage. It’s such a comic and surprising scene. Zombie panic at the mall!

This probably felt like a hopeless moment, but honestly, what happens afterwards is the most wholesome thing. Despite their zombie confession, the innocent kids don’t really understand and mind at all. “You’re Franchouchou!” It’s very emotional for the girls, especially for Ai. They go with it and continue the performance for everyone.

After watching the whole zombie roller coaster ride, Okoba finally understands Franchouchou’s true feelings. Suddenly out of nowhere, Kotaro appears! He tells the reporter that he believes that the girls are “the embodiment of idols.”

Planning their Revenge

Zombieland Saga: Revenge — Kotaro believes in Franchouchou, Franchouchou believes in Kotaro!

I am happy to finally see Kotaro reunite with the zombie girls! While fixing their make-up (an adorable scene) he explains to everyone how he hasn’t given up on their revenge. He promises to do everything he can. It’ll be difficult to overcome but Franchouchou wholeheartedly accepts to perform anyway. It will be for the sake of bringing smiles to the people of Saga!

Kotaro and Sakura’s Feelings

“Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 11 isn’t actually finished yet. There is no ending song so we are instead given one last scene. Sakura runs after Kotaro and expresses how grateful she is to him. She thanks him for not giving up and for making her into an idol.

Kotaro, or Inui rather, remembers memories of a long time ago. Even though Kotaro shouts like the madman he is, it’s actually a very emotional scene. The background music is also really nostalgic. Kotaro tells Sakura that until she fulfills her dream of becoming the best idol in the world, Kotaro will be “a man who can make it come true.” The episode ends with the title card, “All It Takes Is To Be There SAGA.”

A Heartwarming Episode

Wow, I am just in awe with this episode. Chills, literal chills. “Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 11 is just another amazing episode. It has a lot of comedic quality moments but more importantly, it shows how deep our characters are. Honestly, the events so far have made me so emotional.

Zombieland Saga: Revenge — Ai’s expression

I have a lot of favorite moments in this episode. Junko’s masks, Tae’s head, the ponytails, and the panicked expressions made me laugh a lot. I also like Kotaro’s song and the entire scene. (It’s about time we got a song from Kotaro!) Franchouchou helping and performing was so sweet too. Not only were they there for each other, but for all the displaced people too. It’s hilarious though how the mask plan failed so quickly. It could have become a disaster but instead became so heartwarming and wholesome. Seeing Ai hold back her tears made me want to cry too.

Thank you, Inui

Anyway, let’s talk about the most mind-blowing scene. The build-up, the tension, the kabedon! Sakura’s words were so heartfelt! Kotaro’s expression—to think he even has glasses on—is such a beautiful moment. Hats off to Mamoru Miyano’s voice acting performance here. It’s nice to finally have confirmation that Kotaro is indeed Sakura’s classmate, Inui. Honestly, I feel for Kotaro/Inui that he was heartbroken with Sakura’s death. In the end, he put together this project not just for saving Saga, but also to fulfill Sakura’s dream.

Zombieland Saga: Revenge — Kabe (wall) don (the sound)

This scene is so moving. I’m really glad to see Kotaro’s efforts appreciated by Sakura. Furthermore, the animator in charge of this scene posted a tweet thread about his work. He says that he drew Sakura more beautiful based on “Kotaro’s point of view.”

Franchouchou Brings Hope

As someone who lives in a typhoon belt, Episode 11 definitely affected me a lot. You realize how important it is to support everyone in the community however you can. It was definitely heavy to watch Kotaro stranded but otherwise so comforting to see Franchouchou’s efforts. I think that’s why this episode is so meaningful. The girls were “there” for Saga and it defines their “Saving Saga.” They gave reasons for people to smile and continue on. I think that matters a lot.

Zombieland Saga: Revenge — Franchouchou Zombies

All in all, “Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 11 is a wonderful and heartwarming episode. The pure-hearted personalities of Franchouchou are so moving. Despite the dreadful mood, they kept bringing smiles and hope to the people. I’m glad that Okoba saw this too.

I wholeheartedly enjoy this show so much— the art, writing, animation, and music. It’s so silly but it has so much depth and emotion behind it. The balance between comedy and drama is so masterful. I believe that Franchouchou and Kotaro have what it takes to get rid of the curse and save Saga. I’m not ready for it to end, but nevertheless excited to see how it goes.

Episode 12 Season Finale & Special Release

The official website of “Zombieland Saga: Revenge” announced that the season finale will be 27 minutes without commercials. Director Munehisa Sakai and MAPPA producer Manabu Otsuka comment that there’s too much content for the final episode that would not fit in a standard episode’s length. Furthermore, a special featuring Mamoru Miyano and the cast of Franchouchou will air before the episode. Lastly, character designer Kasumi Fukagawa has a commemorative illustration!
