Our Summer 2021 polls are officially over, and Siesta from The Detective is Already Dead was voted as the best girl. The voting for the category was based on votes from 34,812 people. Alice from The Duke of Death and His Maid ranked 2nd, with 0.3% less votes. Tohru ranked 3rd with Kanna at 5th, while Shuuna from Tensura ranked between them. While Siesta enjoyed huge popularity and was called ‘best girl’ from early on, The Detective is Already Dead didn’t rank high with our fans throughout Summer 2021. Although it was the most anticipated new show, it fell out of top 10 in week 3, and never returned. In the final results for Anime of the Season, it ranked 19th with 2.65% of votes. It was based on the light novel written by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu. Yen Press licensed it in English, and they describe the story:
Kimihiko Kimizuka has always been a magnet for trouble and intrigue. For as long as he can remember, he’s been stumbling across murder scenes or receiving mysterious attache cases to transport. When he met Siesta, a brilliant detective fighting a secret war against an organization of pseudohumans, he couldn’t resist the call to become her assistant and join her on an epic journey across the world. …Until a year ago, that is. Now he’s returned to a life that is normal and tepid by comparison, knowing the adventure must be over. After all, the detective is already dead.
