The Blue Lock anime has announced new cast additions that will be featured in the upcoming season. New cast members include Koki Uchiyama as Rin Itoshi, Katsuyuki Konishi as Jyubei Aryu, and Shinnosuke Tachibana as Aoshi Tokimitsu. Previously-announced secondary characters include Ryota Suzuki as Junichi Wanima and Keisuke Wanima, Takahiro Sakurai as Sae Itoshi, and Natsuki Hanae as Ikki Niko. The anime is animated by 8bit and will premiere on October 8 this year.
Tetsuaki Watanabe is directing the Blue Lock anime, while Kenji Tanabe and Kento Toya are in charge of character designs. Taku Kishimoto is doing the series composition, Jun Maruyama is composing the music, and Taku Kishimoto is signing off on the script.
The Blue Lock anime previously released character trailers and visuals for its core cast members. The featured characters were Isagi Yoichi (CV: Kazuki Ura), Bachira Meguru (CV: Tasuku Kaito), Rensuke Kunigami (CV: Yuki Ono), Hyoma Chigiri (CV: Soma Saito), Baro Shoei (CV: Junichi Suwabe), Tsurugi Zantetsu (CV: Kazuyuki Okitsu), and a joint release for Seishiro Nagi (CV: Nobunaka Shimazaki) and Reo Mikage (CV: Yuma Uchida).
Blue Lock is based on a manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized at Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since August 2018. Kodansha USA has licensed the manga in English, describing the plot as:
After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan’s team struggles to regroup. But what’s missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win! The Football Association is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match … To do so, they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players.
