The official Twitter account for the Blue Lock anime adaptation has revealed the first character trailer, and it features one of the main characters, Isagi Yoichi. The anime previously confirmed a 2022 release date, with studio 8bit in charge of the production. Ura Kazuki voices the striker featured in this trailer, and you can watch the video on Bandai Namco’s YouTube channel:
The manga written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro (As the Gods Will: The Second Series) and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura (Dolly Kill Kill) has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine (same as Fire Force, Edens Zero, etc.) since August 2018. The series also won Best Shonen at the 45th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2021, an award that was previously won by Tokyo Revengers in 2020. Kodansha has announced an English print release for Summer 2022, and they describe the story:
After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan’s team struggles to regroup. But what’s missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win! The Football Association is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match … To do so, they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best and brightest youth players. Who will emerge to lead the team … and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?
Isagi Yoichi was the first to get his character trailer, and we can expect the other Blue Lock main characters in the future.
