Classroom of the Elite Year 2 light novel revealed a Volume 9 cover during a special live stream on Sunday. The new volume’s release date is set for February 25, 2023. The live stream was held to celebrate the release of Classroom of the Elite Season 2‘s first Blu-ray and DVD volume on December 23 along with the new milestone achieved in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2023. The light novel, the illustrator Shunsaku Tomose, the protagonist Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, won first place respectively in the Novel, Illustrator, and Male Character categories and the light novel topped the online questionnaire as well.
The newly-unveiled cover visual features Mako Amikura (left) and presumably Norihito Watanabe, both from Honami Ichinose’s class. The two students were in the same group as Kiyotaka Ayanokoji during the school trip to Hokkaido in the previous, 8th volume.

Shogo Kinugasa is writing the story of Classroom of the Elite light novels with art by Shunsaku Tomose. The series is currently being published by Kadokawa under the light novel brand MF Bunko J. Volume 1 was released in May 2015 and the series concluded Year 1 with Volume 11.5 in September 2019. The Year 2 series is ongoing and it released the latest, eighth volume in October 2022. Year 1 received an anime adaptation and aired from July to September 2017. However, the full story from the light novels was not covered. In February 2022, it was announced that the anime’s second and third seasons will cover the remaining part of the story. Studio Lerche is animating both; the second season aired from July to September 2022, and the third is set to release sometime in 2023.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the light and describes the plot of the debut volume of Year 2 as:
As Ayanokouji and his classmates begin their second year at the Advanced Nurturing High School, they’re greeted by a fresh gauntlet of exams and a fresh batch of rather unique first-year students. They’ll have to get to know each other quickly, because the first special exam pairs the first-years with the second-years on a written test—with only the second-years facing expulsion if their team performs poorly! Worse yet? It seems one of the new first-years is also from the White Room. Can Ayanokouji avoid expulsion while sussing out the identity of this hidden foe?
