CloverWorks Behind 3 Great Anime Shows In Winter 2021

MAPPA has a lot of attention this season considering they are in charge of Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan The Final Season. However, while both are amazing, we have to highlight another studio which will mark the Winter 2021 anime season with 3 shows – CloverWorks. They are in charge of 3 shows fans love, and let’s take a look at what they are:

The Promised Neverland Season 2

Having done the first season, studio CloverWorks is back for the sequel. Emma, Ray and the other kids are outside the walls and the story gets a new tone with the introduction of more demons. If you haven’t started it yet, there’s a total of 14 episodes so you can catch up pretty quickly! The story:

Emma, Norman, Ray, and many other “siblings” live at an isolated orphanage cut off from the outside world. They live a charmed life surrounded by friends and watched over by Mama, their caretaker, until they leave the house for a foster family by the age of twelve. The only rule is that they must never venture outside of the gate that isolates them from the rest of society, for dangers await. But one day, the children learn the true horror of what’s in store for their short lives…

Genre: Sci-Fi, Mystery, Adventure, Action, Drama

This was already a popular manga, but it’s a new anime (non-sequel). Its first 2 episodes were incredibly well received, and it’s likely to continue for the remaining 9 episodes (Total: 11). The story:

Kyouko and Izumi are two classmates who each lead a double life: the popular and talented Kyouko cares for her little brother by herself while her parents are away, and the quiet, bespectacled Izumi hides his many piercings and tattoos at school. After accidentally discovering each other’s secrets the pair becomes fast friends, and together, they begin to navigate their new relationship together amongst unknowing peers and love rivals alike.

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Slice of Life, School

This is an original anime, and no one really knew what it would be like before the premiere. We expected a slice-of-life, but instead got something like a psychological horror, and it’s great! So far there’s only 1 episode, but it continues in 2 days and will have a total of 12. The animation is amazing as well, and you should definitely give it a shot. The story may sound a bit confusing, but it goes:

The aforementioned Ai scored a “Wonder Egg” from a gachapon machine at a deserted arcade. But when Ai falls asleep and a girl (!) emerges from her Wonder Egg, the worlds of dreams and reality begin to collide. And it’s all connected.

Genre: Slice of Life, Psychological, Drama, Fantasy, Horror

I find all 3 shows by CloverWorks for the Winter 2021 season great, and highly recommend them. You can see if any fit your genre preferences and least give them a shot. If you enjoy them, you can also contribute to our weekly poll by voting it as the best every week here! Last week, they all made the top 10! (Horimiya #2, The Promised Neverland #4 and Wonder Egg Priority #8).
