CloverWorks has reported a net loss of ¥38.48 million (approximately US$238,000) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, according to the studio’s official financial notice published in Japan’s Kanpo (Official Gazette).

The result represents a bigger loss than the previous fiscal year, when the Aniplex-owned animation studio posted a net loss of ¥24.35 million (approx $148,000).

According to the published balance sheet, CloverWorks reported:

  • Current assets: ¥2.12 billion
  • Fixed assets: ¥947 million
  • Total assets: ¥3.07 billion
  • Total liabilities: ¥2.49 billion
  • Net assets: ¥577.6 million

Despite remaining in the red, the company continues to maintain positive net assets.

The studio’s recent financial results have fluctuated considerably over the past several years. After recording profits in fiscal 2021, 2022, and 2024, CloverWorks returned to losses in fiscal 2025 and reported a larger deficit in fiscal 2026.

Founded in 2018 following its separation from A-1 Pictures, CloverWorks is a subsidiary of Aniplex and has become one of Japan’s most popular animation studios. Its recent productions include The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, My Dress-Up Darling, Bocchi the Rock!, WIND BREAKER, SPY×FAMILY (co-produced with WIT STUDIO), and Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus.

The studio still has numerous upcoming projects, including GROTESQUE (film directed by Atsushi Nishigori), The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore TV anime, a new EVANGELION anime in collaboration with Khara, BOCCHI THE ROCK Season 2, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend film, and this summer’s The Elusive Samurai Season 2.

As is often the case in Japan’s animation industry, a single fiscal year’s profit or loss does not necessarily reflect the commercial success of a studio’s individual anime productions, as financial results can be affected by production schedules, investment timing, and contract structures.
