Cowboy Bebop Anime Coming to Netflix in October

Netflix will stream Cowboy Bebop anime starting on October 21. The exact list of the territories it’ll be available in isn’t out yet, but it seems like it will be available in Europe and SEA.

The Cowboy Bepop anime aired in 1998 and had 26 episodes but the series was originally canceled after 12 episodes due to the violence depicted in it. However, TV station WOWOW started another broadcast of it, which was a mix of the first 12 episodes and some new ones. The episode order was also completely different from the original broadcast.

Studio Sunrise directed it, along with Cowboy Bebop Session XX: Mish-Mash Blues TV special and Cowboy Bebop: Ein’s Summer Vacation Blu-ray special. The franchise also has a movie from studio BONES, which came out in 2001. Two manga adaptations of the series exist as well. Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star (1997-1998) and Cowboy Bebop (1998-2000), which is based on anime.

Aoi Tada, Megumi Hayashibara, Unshou Ishizuka, and Kouichi Yamadera voice the main characters.

The story is an original work by Hajime Yatate. Yatate is not a person, but a pseudonym for the entire studio Sunrise animation staff. Shinichiro Watanabe (Terror in Resonance) directed the anime, while Toshihiro Kawamoto (Noragami) did character designs. Kawamoto, who is one of the studio BONES founders, was also a chief animation director on the series. Youko Kanno composed the music.

Check out the opening for the anime below:

Scouring space for bounties, a ragtag crew – a former hitman, an ex-cop, a con artist, a hacker kid and a data dog – live paycheck to paycheck.
