Episode 4 of Cue! has aired and it seems like the show is transitioning from the voice acting motif that was introduced in the first three episodes to the inevitable idol thematic. To be fair though, I think everyone’s first impression of the series was that this is an actual idol show rather than just voice acting. Now, this doesn’t mean that the anime is going to go downhill because of this. It’s important to note that, although idols and voice actors are different careers, sometimes the former can be the doorway to reach the latter and vice-versa. Moreover, it means that there are people who became voice actors by doing idol work initially. With that being said, episode 4 of Cue! continues the idol journey of the newly formed idol group from the 3rd episode.
Just like being a voice actor, an idol is also a hard career to pursue and maintain. Whether you’re going solo or in a group, the training is rough and harsh. In fact, the episode showed some of the struggles of idol training and what a group needs in order to succeed. The episode also highlighted two characters namely: Airi Eniwa and Yuuki Tendou who seem to have quite opposite personalities.
Airi Eniwa, one of the girls who joined the idol project, is a shy and timid girl. Unlike the rest, she struggles to keep up with the strict idol practice. Due to her lack of confidence, she cannot sync properly with her other members. On top of that, she even considers herself a very unlucky person hence she tried to bring a lot of good luck charms during practice. Sadly, no matter how many trinkets she brings, it just makes it even worse for her and drives her to the point of quitting. On the other hand, we have Yuuki Tendou, a determined and happy-go-lucky character but she sometimes cannot understand the emotions of others. Based on the two conflicting personalities, it’s pretty clear that the group will encounter problems. How will they overcome these problems? Through realization, bonding, and of course, friendship.
I know, the answers are very cliche but that’s what they actually needed. Fortunately enough, they managed to do it in the episode through bonding and the power of friendship, just like any other idol anime. This just comes to show that as more episodes get released, the more Cue! is becoming an idol show.
