The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime has lived up to its status of the most anticipated new (non-sequel) show of Fall 2023 as it also topped the first weekly poll of the season. It took an impressive 12.56% of the votes, and it was followed by two sequels – The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 and JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2. Those two were also the only sequels in the top 10, though some of the most exciting ones are yet to air. You can also see the full ranking.
The Frieren anime was recently confirmed to run for 2 consecutive cours until March 24, and Crunchyroll will stream it outside Japan (you can also see their full Fall 2023 line-up). Studio MADHOUSE is animating. The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End main anime staff consists of Keiichiro Saito as the director, Tomohiro Suzuki as the scriptwriter, Reiko Nagasawa as the character designer and Evan Call as the music composer. The anime is based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020. Viz Media licensed the manga in English, and they describe the story:
Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. With the great struggle over, they all go their separate ways to live a quiet life. But as an elf, Frieren, nearly immortal, will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to terms with the mortality of her friends? How can she find fulfillment in her own life, and can she learn to understand what life means to the humans around her? Frieren begins a new journey to find the answer.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End definitely deserves the high praise, and you can vote for episode 5 in the second Fall 2023 weekly poll!
