Horimiya Episode 3 Shows Sweet Romantic Progress

Horimiya episode 3 released today, and I yet again I’m reminded how much I want Tooru Ishikawa to be happy. The man went through a lot in the episode, but I’ll mention the sweet part first. There will be mentions of things that happened, so care if you haven’t seen the episode yet! Learning about Miyamura’s isolated past explains the opening a bit. He was alone and thought to be weird all the way to high school, which might have continued without Hori’s involvement.

She was the first to talk to him, and it resulted in him becoming a part of the group and not being isolated any more. Shortly after, we got to see the selfish side of Hori. When Remi asked if she could take Miyamura (apparently as a joke), Hori got mad and said he’s hers. It was a complete opposite of how Miyamura acted when Ishikawa came to him with a similar question. Unexpected and pretty selfish, but still sweet since we already knew Miyamura likes her too.

Never giving up

A few minutes later, he even officially confirms it. With her younger brother not in the house as often, they’ve still being seeing each other a lot. After seeing Miyamura not enjoying horrors and a black out happening, they start discussing their hands. Hori says she likes him, although she then gets embarrassed and says she likes his hands (…) However, our MC takes initiative and replies that he likes her, and then repeats it for good measure. It’s nice to see it happening already this early in the story!

Back to Tooru, the guy is now friends with Miyamura and overheard that Hori said she won’t give him up. No wonder he’s conflicted since Miyamura’s been acting like nothing is happening and he may have still had some hopes. Regardless, in this episode, he ended up arguing with Miyamura and accidentally slapped him. Being the good guy he is, he apologized immediately, but our MC was not taking it. He beat the S out of Tooru and made him hurt now physically as well. Luckily they both realize they had parts of the blame and will probably resolve it soon, but Tooru really needs some love soon.

Summary of Tooru’s story so far in this anime

Kyouko and Izumi are two classmates who each lead a double life: the popular and talented Kyouko cares for her little brother by herself while her parents are away, and the quiet, bespectacled Izumi hides his many piercings and tattoos at school. After accidentally discovering each other’s secrets the pair becomes fast friends, and together, they begin to navigate their new relationship together amongst unknowing peers and love rivals alike.
