Japanese Traditional Painting Breathes Life Into Overlord's Ainz

Japanese artist Miwa Hiduki got to show off her painting skills by drawing Overlord protagonist – Ainz Ooal Gown. The painting is done in the traditional Japanese style, also known Nihonga. Hiduki, who is a Tokyo-based artist with years of experience, says she drew her favorite scene from the series: Ainz activating his supreme magic at the Katze Plains. She adds that she used materials and paint that work with the trembling atmosphere that surrounds Ainz. You can watch her paint below:

Overlord Season 4 – Ainz Painting by Miwa Hiduki

The Overlord anime series is based on light novels written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin. The light novel, known for its unique art, is set to end soon. Illustrator so-bin will be working on a new fantasy project, with Goblin Slayer author Kumo Kagyu.

The fourth season of the anime adaptation is currently airing. Studio MADHOUSE is animating it, under it Naoyuki Ito’s direction. The main cast includes:

  • Satoshi Hino as Ainz
  • Yumi Hara as Albedo
  • Sumire Uesaka as Shalltear Bloodfallen
  • Emiri Kato as Aura Bella Fiora
  • Yumi Uchiyama as Mare Bello Fiore
  • Kenta Miyake as Cocytus 
  • Masayuki Kato as Demiurge

The first season of the anime adaptation aired in 2015. Season 2 and season 3 both aired during 2018, with studio MADHOUSE animating. Two recap movies by the same studio were also released along the way. A new movie is also in the works, but no additional information is known at this time.
