Kugane Maruyama and so-bin’s Overlord light novel will end in two volumes, with Volume 18, as confirmed in the newest volume (16th) that was released on July 29 in Japan. The series was scheduled to conclude with volume 17, however, Kugane Maruyama revealed on January 4, 2022, that his draft on the new arc about the elf “The Half-Elf God-Kin” surpassed 700 pages and will have to be split into two volumes (15 and 16), which will be released on June 30 and July 29 respectively.
“‘Overlord’ will end in two volumes,” the author stated in Volume 16’s afterword: “I hope you follow [the series] a little bit longer.” Despite being unsure of how long that “a little bit longer” will be like at present, he states that he “hope the final two volumes will be published in a short period [like the two newest volumes were].“
Kugane Maruyama writes the story of the Overlord light novel series with art by so-bin. The series released Volume 1 on July 30, 2012. Studio Madhouse animated the adaptation and is currently producing Overlord Season 4 under Naoyuki Ito’s direction. The franchise also has a short anime series, titled Ple Ple Pleiades. The fourth season of it is being directed by Minoru Ashina and airing concurrently with the new season.
