Viewers of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – Ultra Romantic had the opportunity to enjoy a new ending theme, complete with new animation in the recent episode 5 of the season. The special ending features the song “My Nonfiction” by Makoto Furukawa (Shirogane’s voice actor) and Konomi Kohara (Chika Fujiwara).
The ending sequence was directed by Vercreek, an 18-year-old animator from the Philippines. Vercreek previously worked as a key animator on titles such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan The Final Season and this was his directorial debut.
Vercreek, whose real name is Vynz Allen Lopez, tweeted explaining the creative process behind the ending sequence that he also storyboarded. According to him, he had 3 things in mind when making it: Fujiwara and Shirogane’s mentor-student relationship, Shirogane’s indirect love confession, but also Iino making fun of Ishigami.
Japanese rapper AKKOGORILLA wrote the lyrics for the “My Nonfiction” song, and also composed the music with PARKGOLF. PARKGOLF was in charge of the arrangement. The song will be available to stream on May 10. Album art style illustration was also revealed:
Episode 5 of Ultra Romantic is not the first time that Kaguya-sama anime delivered a special ending. In the first season, there was the “Chikatto Chika Chika” song that combined a special ending with a dance by Chika Fujiwara.
