Lycoris Recoil Anime Replaces Eye-Catch Illustrations of Red Flowers in Episode 11

Lycoris Recoil announced that the anime will replace the 11th episode’s eye-catch illustrations, which have Chisato and Takina smoking the Lycoris radiata (spider lily) flowers, which are poisonous in reality. The scene is still visible in the opening and will not be removed from there. The anime’s official English website doesn’t have the announcement as of the time of writing, so it is unknown whether other platforms overseas will follow the measure or not.

The official website updated with the announcement titled “Episode 11 ‘Diamond cut diamond’ Regarding Replacement of the Eye-Catch Illustrations” and the text reads as follows:

Thank you very much for having been supporting “Lycoris Recoil.” We have decided to replace the eyecatch illustrations of the 11th episode “Diamond cut diamond” which aired and streamed the other day. The mentioned illustrations are drawn based on the world’s setting and the characters have Lycoris flowers in their mouths, but, as the plants are poisonous, we’d like to request you not attempt to do it. Also, the illustrations have been inserted in the opening video, but, to respect the intentions of creators they will not be replaced with new illustrations. The replacement of the 11th episode in each streaming platform will be carried out subsequently, accordingly to the systems. Thank you for your understanding. We would be grateful for your continued support.

The illustrator behind the drawing, Ukiashi, quote-tweeted the announcement: “I hope you can hand this down as an urban legend of Lycoris Recoil🙇: There is an inexistent, phantom 14th eye-catch in the 13-episode-long anime.” In later tweets, they encouraged fans to check the episode before the replacement is complete, and revealed that the new illustrations depict something you are safe to try and that it was a good opportunity to draw Chisato and Takina again.

The original story writer Asaura also quote-tweeted the announcement with a positive comment “So the anime will have new eye-catch illustrations!” while the original character designer Imigimuru said that it’s really sad because he really likes the illustrations and added that he can’t delete the anime broadcasted on TV he has recorded.

You can check out the original illustration of the characters with the Lycoris flowers posted on September 10 by the eyepatch illustrator, Ukiashi. In a follow-up tweet, they added a warning about not trying it, as the Lycoris flowers are poisonous and the artist drew them as an expression of work in the Lycoris Recoil anime.

Eye-catches are illustrations usually shown in the middle of anime episodes – generally to signify a commercial break. Here are the updated versions:
