The sequel nobody expected premiered on April 4, 2021, and proved that you can make a sequel of almost anything. The first season ended in a way that didn’t leave, in my opinion, enough material for the continuation. However, the scriptwriters, Kensaku Kojima and Katsuhiko Manabe, delivered something truly amazing. Megalobox 2 Episode 2 premiered on April 11, 2021.
The first episode introduced us to Nomad, the person that the former Megalonia champion is now. We saw that his life went downhill since the ending of the first season. He got addicted to some drugs and went back to the underground ring.
After getting his stolen in the second episode, Joe arrives at the immigrants village. After seeing his bike and meeting the mother of a kid who stole it, the effects of the drug he is addicted to wear off and he faints.
The ones who help him are Marla, the mother of a kid who stole Joe’s bike, and Chief, the guy who Joe fought in a fixed fight in Episode 1. During the same day, government workers arrived to inform immigrants that the place they are currently staying at is going up on an auction in two weeks. That’s when Chief decides that he will fight in Megalonia in order to buy the land.
During the night of the immigrant’s festival, Joe and Chief talked about Joe’s past. The way he won the Megalonia without any gear was an inspiration for immigrants that came to this land with nothing. Unfortunately, Joe had no business going back to Megalonia and he decided to leave the next day.
The episode ends with Joe coming back after getting rid of the drugs. He wants to help Chief win Megalonia so he can see his dream getting realized.
After the first two episodes, I can surely say that Megalobox 2: Nomad is a sequel no one knew they wanted. It’s executed extremely well and the way they portrayed how Joe is right now just works perfectly. We can’t wait to see more!
In the end, “Gearless” Joe was the one that reigned as the champion of Megalonia, a first ever megalobox tournament. Fans everywhere were mesmerized by the meteoric rise of Joe who sprung out from the deepest underground ring to the top in mere three months and without the use of gear. Seven years later, “Gearless” Joe was once again fighting in underground matches. Adorned with scars and once again donning his gear, but now known only as Nomad.
