Mononoke series is celebrating its 15th anniversary with a special event this June. The event, which is set to take place on June 18, will be attended by anime director Kenji Nakamura, Takahiro Sakurai (who voiced Medicine Seller), and producer Koji Yamamoto. Fans are also invited to vote for their favorite scene during a campaign that begins today and ends on August 14. The Mononoke event will also be streamed on YouTube.
Mononoke is a TV anime produced by Toei Animation. It originally aired on Fuji TV’s Noitamina TV block from July to September 2007 and had a total of 12 episodes. The anime was directed by Kenji Nakamura (Gatchaman Crowds Insight), with a screenplay by Ikuko Takahashi (episodes 1-2, 10-11) Chiaki Konaka (episodes 3-5, 8-9), Manabu Ishikawa (episodes 6-7), Michiko Yokote (episode 12). Takashi Hashimoto was a character designer and a chief animation director on the project. Yasuharu Takanashi composed the music. The story is a spin-off of the Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales anime from 2006 (also animated by Toei Animation), and over the years it had multiple manga adaptations.
Crunchyroll used to stream the anime and described the plot as:
In feudal Japan, evil spirits known as mononoke plague the countryside, leaving a trail of fear in their wake. One mysterious person has the power to slay the mononoke where they stand; he is known as the Medicine Seller, and he vanquishes the spirits using the power of his Exorcism Sword. In order to draw his sword he must understand the Form, Truth and Reason of the mononoke. Armed with a sharp wit, the Medicine Seller wanders from place to place, striking down the evil spirits in his wake.
