Mononoke Movie: Karagasa is the upcoming film from the Mononoke series. The movie was announced on July 2023 during the original 2007 anime series’ 15th-anniversary event as a celebration for the milestone. Kenji Nakamura, who directed the original 2007 anime series, will be returning to direct the movie with Twin Engine EOTA Studio (Hell’s Paradise) animating the series. Hiroshi Kamiya will be voicing the main character, who is only known as the medicine seller.

The movie takes place at the end of Japan’s Edo period and Meiji Era. It follows the story of a wandering, nameless character who is only known as the medicine seller. The medicine seller travels across Japan, slaying spirits called Mononoke. However, he must first learn the Mononoke’s form, truth, and reasons to kill them.

Mononoke is an anime series produced by Toei Animation. It’s a spin-off of Toei Animation’s 2006 horror anime series, Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales. The series aired from July 2007 to September 2007 and has inspired two manga adaptations. The first manga adaptation was published in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine and ran from August 2007 to August 2008. The second manga adaptation, Mononoke: Umibozu, ran from September 2013 to November 2014 and was published in Tokuma Shoten’s Monthly Comic Zenon. Both adaptations were illustrated by Ninagawa Yaeko.

Crunchyroll is streaming the original 2007 Mononoke series with both English subtitles and dub.
