Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Could Be One Of The Best Anime Shows Of 2021

*Note: This article is originally from before the anime premiered. If you watched the 1st part, you can skip to the part 2 below.

It may seem like it’s just another cliche isekai, but “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” is more likely to actually be one of the best anime series of 2021. Aside from the beautiful looking artstyle and animation, there are a few more reasons to justify the claim.

Origin

Firstly, it originally started on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s Become a Novelist) website back in 2012. That might not mean much to you right now, but it’s actually the biggest website for web novels in Japan. There are currently over 780,000+ novels hosted on the platform! Some of the other franchises that started there are:

  • Log Horizon (2010-ongoing)
  • KonoSuba (2012–2013)
  • Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World (2012–ongoing)
  • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (2013–2016)
  • The Irregular at Magic High School (2008–2011)
  • The Rising of the Shield Hero (2012–2015)

Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (“Jobless Reincarnation: I Will Seriously Try If I Go To Another World”) by Rifujin na Magonote first released on the platform from 2012 to 2015. We can see that many of the recently popular anime series were also beginning around that time. Only a year after it started, they announced that Mushoku Tensei would get its print release on Media Factory’s MF Books imprint with illustrations by Pixiv user Shirotaka. There is also a manga adaptation that started in 2014 and is still ongoing, as well as a spin-off manga which started in 2017 (also ongoing). The spin-off focuses on the main character’s magic teacher Roxy.

The Animation of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

Moving forward, the anime announcement was extremely well received. The official upload on Funimation’s Facebook profile crossed 57,000+ reactions and even more on YouTube on both Japanese and English uploads. Three trailers are out already, and all feature beautiful animation. Check out the first trailer:

Next, the second one. This is a teaser trailer from 3 weeks ago:

And finally, the latest one which features new scenes. Also the awesome Tomokazu Sugita’s voice as adult Rudeus!

Studio Bind is in charge of the animation production. Founded in November 2018 as a joint venture by studio White Fox and Egg Firm. The first work of the studio was on the anime Karakuri Circus for episodes 22 and 31. However, Mushoku Tensei will be their first anime as the lead animation studio. It already seems like it will be a great debut!

Voice Actors

Another reason why Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation might be one of the best anime in 2021 are the voice actors! Aside from Tomokazu Sugita voicing the former version of the main character Rudeus, the rest of the cast is awesome too!

Yumi Uchiyama voices the young Rudeus Greyrat

Toshiyuki Morikawa voices Paul Greyrat, who is also the main character’s dad in the new world:

Hisako Kanemoto voices Zenith Greyrat, who is also the main character’s mom in the new world:

Lynn voices the Greyrat house maid Lilia

Konomi Kohara voices the magician girl Roxy Migurdia

Ai Kayano voices Sylphiette

Ai Kakuma voices Eris Boreas Greyrat

Daisuke Namikawa voices Ruijerd Superdia

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2

After an amazing part 1, which our fans voted as the best new anime of Winter 2021, part 2 is now coming after a delay from its original July schedule. It was actually the first show to overtake Attack on Titan that season after 8 weeks, and the results for that week blew up on our Facebook. It’s also the 2nd most anticipated anime for Fall 2021, only behind Demon Slayer. Rudeus, Eris and Ruijerd will continue to travel, while Roxy will also reappear. The latest trailer for part 2:

Let’s remember the epic Ghislaine moment, or even just Rudy creating his first water ball! We’re getting more of that, and part 2 will have 12 episodes compared to the 11 of part 1.

The rest of the cast to look forward to:

Toyoguchi Megumi voices Ghislaine Dedoldia

Kawanishi Kengo voices Almanfi

Tanaka Rie voices Elinalise Dragonroad

Houchu Ootsuka voices Talhand

Tsuda Kenjiro voices Orsted

Iguchi Yuka voices Kishirisu Kishirika

In addition, Koyama Rikiya voices Dola Perugius, and Kujira will voice Hitogami (Human God).

Studio Bind Was Founded Mainly for Mushoku Tensei

The reputation of Mushoku Tensei was so big that it needed a new studio in order to implement a system to produce it properly. Studio Bind delivered an impressive adaptation so far, and doubling that in part 2 might make it even closer to actually being the best anime of 2021. Fall is stacked, and we had more great anime, so it should be an entertaining competition.

As far as the story goes, also read the full synopsis:

When a 34-year-old underachiever gets run over by a bus, his story doesn’t end there. Reincarnated in a new world as an infant, Rudy will seize every opportunity to live the life he’s always wanted. Armed with new friends, some freshly acquired magical abilities, and the courage to do the things he’s always dreamed of, he’s embarking on an epic adventure—with all of his past experience intact!

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Part 2 will premiere on October 3 exclusively on Funimation, and you’ll be able to vote for it as the best of Week 1 on our poll tomorrow.
