Netflix to Stream Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop on July 22

Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop, the upcoming romantic drama movie, will be available to stream on Netflix on July 22nd, 2021. The movie opens in Japanese theatres on the same day.

Studios Signal.MD (Mars Red) and Sublimation (Dragon’s Dogma) are co-producing Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop. Sublimation is a CG company, also known for its work on Your Name. The movie is a stand-alone with an original story. It’s part of the 10th-anniversary celebration project for the Flying Dog music label. The movie was originally slated to premiere on May 20th, 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kyohei Ishiguro (Your Lie in April) is directing the movie. Chief animation director, Yukiko Aikei (Accel World) is also listed as a character designer. Kensuke Ushio is composing the music, with Sato Dai on the script.

Hana Sugisaki stars as Smile, while Somegoro Ichikawa VIII voices Cherry. Kikuko Inoue, Koichi Yamadera, Megumi Han, and Natsuki Hanae also star in the movie.

Netflix released the official trailer for the movie, as well as the synopsis:
After meeting one bright, sunny day, a shy boy who expresses himself through haiku and a bubbly but self-conscious girl share a brief, magical summer.

The trailer features the movie’s theme song “Cider no You ni Kotoba ga Wakiagaru” by never young beach, as well as an insert song “Yamazakura” by Taeko Onuki. You can watch the full video below:
