The recently released Volume 14 of Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time revealed that the Peter Grill manga is to end with it’s Fall 2024 Volume 15 release. And for the common weeb, that’s a heartbreaking announcement. Representation is important, it lets you know you’re not alone in the world and that you’re accepted and loved. Most want a pure MC they can self-insert into, some of us can’t vibe with those do-good vibes. We need an MC who understands the plight of the common man, one who fails as much as he succeeds. We need someone who likes him and tries to be the best man he can be. But after promising to be back home by 11 pm after “just a couple drinks with the bros,” we wake up two days later confused, naked, and in a different zip code. Losing an MC that represents that is a loss for humanity.
Daisuke Hiyama’s Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time has been published in Futabasha’s Manga Action magazine since July 2017. The anime adaptation is currently on Crunchyroll and HIDIVE (only the latter of which has both seasons). Wolfsbane animated the first season and was joined by studio Seven for the second.
Peter Grill shows that physical strength doesn’t necessarily equal mental strength. As Peter’s prowess as the world’s greatest warrior spreads far and wide, he rejoices in the fact that his newfound name will help him grow closer and tie the knot with the girl who stole his heart. But his fame comes with a cost. Women from across the world want to get at his Peter juice, so that their offspring may one day be as strong. And while he may try to stay faithful, he’s what one would say, the British Petroleum of boyfriends. A slight breeze causes a slip of unimaginable catastrophes.
Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time Volume 14 was released on April 11, 2024. The final volume is slated for a fall release.
