Director Tomohiko Ito launched his first manga, titled Wonder X, with artist Mekki Kuroyama. The manga is being serialized on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype platform. Ito is writing the story in front of Aniplex’s Script Room (the group was founded in 2016 with the goal of focusing on anime scripts), while Kuroyama is in charge of the art.
The plot of Tomohiko Ito and Mekki Kuroyama’s Wonder X manga is set in the first half of the 90s and follows a group of children who meet a mysterious being. The manga is also featured in October’s issue of the Newtype magazine. The first chapter is available in Japanese.
Tomohiko Ito is best known for his work on A-1 Pictures’ Sword Art Online and Sword Art Online II, both of which he directed. He directed Erased, the first season of Silver Spoon, The Millionaire Detective Balance: Unlimited, and Occult Academy, which was his directorial debut. He also directed two Sword Art Online movies, Extra Edition and Ordinal Scale, and Hello World (with a screenplay by Mado Nozaki).
Mekki Kuroyama wrote and illustrated the Amnesia Joker manga adaptation and has also worked as an artist for Isekaigaeri no Moto Yuusha Desu ga, Death Game ni Makikomaremashita manga.
