SAO Progressive Collab is coming. Sword Art Online series’ upcoming movie, Sword Art Online Progressive collaborates with a professional baseball team, Yomiuri Giants, in Japan.
The official Twitter for the franchise announced the collaboration on September 21. This is a game, but not playing, the tweet says. On October 2, 2021, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu, the voice of Kirito, will throw the opening pitch at Tokyo Dorm and take care of announcements.
Tokyo Dorm is the Yomiuri Giants’ home ground, and they will have a match against DeNA. You can see the collaborative visual below:
Characters play baseball in Yomiuri Giants’ uniforms. Kirito, for example, wears a batting helmet with the team’s logo design and in a motion to hit a ball. Collaborative goods will also be available.
On September 30, they released a new visual for the collaboration, and additional attendees, Taketatsu Ayana (Leafa) and Yasumoto Hiroki (Agil), at the baseball game that takes place on October 2.
On the same day, they also announced that the movie’s new character, Mito (ミト) would serve as this year’s Mito no Umetaishi (水戸の梅大使), PR ambassador for Mito (水戸) city of Ibaraki prefecture. It’s part of a collaborative campaign SWORD ART ONLINE -Episode of MITO CITY that will take place from October 29 to December 26. On October 29, the day before the premiere of the movie, they will hold a collaborative fireworks festival at Kairakuen: Mito Kairakuen Fireworks Festival and Sword Art Online.
Yen Press has been publishing the English version of the light novel series and describes the plot of Sword Art Online Progressive Volume 1 as:
