Den-noh Coil, the 2007 sci-fi anime series directed and written by Mitsuo Iso, officially made its debut on the popular streaming platform Netflix. The series, which was animated by Madhouse, became available on Netflix on January 27.
The series debut on Netflix comes a day before the release of The Orbital Children, another sci-fi series directed by Mitsuo Iso. The Orbital Children goes live on Netflix on January 28 and is composed of two parts, split into 6-episode installments. Production +h is animating the series and this is the studio’s first major work.
In 2045, two children born on the moon and three kids from Earth try to survive after an accident on their space station leaves them stranded.

Den-noh Coil, also known as Coil – A Circle of Children, first aired on NHK Educational TV from May 12, 2007, to December 1, 2007, and ended after 26 episodes. The series is set in the year 2026, where it has been eleven years since the “Den-noh Megane”, or a wearable computer in the form of glasses that uses AR technology, become well-known worldwide.
The year is 2026. The story takes place in the city of Daikoku. Yuko Konoki is a sixth grader who lives with her father, mother, and younger sister. Just before summer vacation, her family moves to Daikoku City, where her grandmother lives. It is an ancient city with a long history, lined with shrines and temples, and also a special administrative district boasting the latest in electronic infrastructure.

The series’ overall sci-fi theme and mix of old-fashioned Japanese scenery have earned praise from viewers all over the world. John Hank, the founder of Niantic and creator of the augmented reality games Ingress and Pokemon Go, cited Den-noh Coil as one of the inspirations for his interest in AR, aside from Ghost in the Shell.
Den-noh Coil has earned various awards, including The Excellence Award in the Animation Division during the 2007 Japan Media Arts Festival and Best Dramatic Presentation during the 39th Seiun Award in 2008.
