Spy Classroom delayed the episode 8 broadcast to March 2 due to the effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the production schedule. The episode was supposed to air on February 23. Instead, a special program will be broadcast in the timeslot.

Studio feel is adapting the anime based on a light novel written by Takemachi and illustrated by Tomari. Keiichiro Kawaguchi is directing the anime, with Shinichi Inozume on the series composition. The light novel written by Takemachi and illustrated by Tomari started serialization in 2020 in Fujimi Fantasia Bunko and currently has 6 volumes. In Japan, it s known as Spy Room. A manga adaptation by Kaname Seu is currently ongoing in Media Factory’s Comic Alive magazine. A short story light novel series is also currently ongoing. The light novel won the 32nd Fantasia Bunko award.

Yen Press licensed the light novel in English and describes the plot as:
Following a devastating military conflict, countries fight their wars in the shadows. One unusual spy, Klaus, has never failed on the job despite his quirks, and he is building a team to take on an Impossible Mission—one with over a 90 percent chance of failure. However, his chosen members are all washouts with no practical experience. They’ll have to use every trick in the book (and some that aren’t) to prove they’re up to the task!

Spy Classroom now joined other delayed seasonal titles which include The Misfit of Demon King Academy Season 2, Kubo Won’t Let You Be Invisible, UniteUp!, Ayakashi Triangle, and NieR:Automata (returns this Saturday).
