The upcoming Sword Art Online: Progressive – Scherzo of Deep Night anime film has revealed the main trailer ahead of the October 22 premiere in Japan. The movie, which was originally set for September release but was delayed, will screen in IMAX theatres. Studio A-1 Pictures is animating the second installment of the Progressive series.
The trailer features Eir Aoi’s song titled “Shinzo“, which is the theme song for the upcoming film. It was released on Asuna’s birthday. Haruka Tomatsu and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will return to voice Asuna and Kirito respectively. Shiori Izawa will also reprise her role as Argo, who first appeared in episode 3 of the original Sword Art Online anime series. The movie was initially set to premiere on September 10, 2022, but was delayed to October 22, 2022, due to COVID-19 rising cases in Japan.
Ayako Kono is directing the Sword Art Online: Progressive – Scherzo of Deep Night at studio A-1 Pictures. The same studio and director also worked on its prequel, Sword Art Online: Progressive – Aria of a Starless Night, which premiered on October 30, 2021, in IMAX theatres, nationwide in Japan. The movie was also released in more than 40 countries around the world.
ASCII Media Works has been serializing Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series with abec’s illustrations since 2012, and it currently has 8 volumes available. The second Progressive movie will adapt the 4th volume of the light novel series.
