Upcoming Sword Art Online: Progressive -Scherzo of the Deep Night- movie has revealed the character design and introduction for the new character, Argo. The anime film is set to premiere this fall. You can check out the character design below:
According to the official website, Argo is also known as “Argo the Rat”. She is an informant who is also familiar with Kirito and Asuna. In the original Sword Art Online series, Argo’s first and last appearance was in episode 3, and she was the one who gave the information to Kirito regarding the drop item that can resurrect the dead. Shiori Izawa will return to the Sword Art Online franchise to voice Argo after 10 years.

According to the official website, Kirito and Asuna are now teaming up to clear the Sword Art Online game, with Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Haruka Tomatsu are also reprising their roles as Kirito and Asuna. Watch the most recent teaser trailer:
A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online series) is animating the movie with Ayako Kono (Gate as the director. They are also the ones in charge of the first part, titled Sword Art Online: Progressive -Aria of the Starless Night-, which premiered on October 30, 2022. It also topped the Japanese Box Office revenue during the opening weekend, earning over 349 million yen (~US$3.04 million).

The anime film is based on Reki Kawahara’s Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series, which centers around the early events around Kirito and Asuna when they were still on the lower floors of Aincrad. These scenes were not included in the original series because of the time skip. ASCII Media Works has been publishing the light novel series since October 2012, and it currently has 8 volumes in circulation. Yen Press licensed the Sword Art Online Progressive light novel series in English. The movie will adapt the 4th volume of the series and you can read the synopsis below:
