That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime at AnimeJapan 2021

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime stage event at AnimeJapan 2021 looks back at the first half of the 2nd season.

We have another event recap from AnimeJapan 2021! On this post, it’s all about “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime,” also known in Japan as Tensura. The first part of the second season ended with a bang! The cast of the series reflects on the first part of the 2nd season.

Present in the event were voice actors Tomoaki Maeno, Makoto Furukawa, Akane Kumada and Miho Okasaki. Maeno-san is cast as the dragon Veldora Tempest, Furukawa-san voices Benimaru, and Kumada-san plays the role of Eren. Okasaki-san plays the lead role of Rimuru Tempest and is also the host for the segment.

Following the introductions, they proceed to talk about what has happened so far. Furukawa-san looks back, saying that it’s still interesting. Kumada-san laughingly confesses that she’s been through the second season twice.

Tensura cast shares their best moments from first half of Season 2

Spoiler alert! From this point on, we will be sharing important details about the first part of season 2.

The cast also shared their best moments from the first part of the series:

Kumada-san’s best moment: She chose the scene where Eren told a fairy tale. “This is a scene when Rimuru felt hopeless about the future after comrades including Shion and my favorite, Gobzo, died.” (From Episode 32)

Rimuru saw a gleam of hope when Eren spoke. She also suddenly revealed that she was a young lady from a noble family, so Kumada-san thinks of it as an important scene to develop the story further.

Furukawa-san’s best moment: Benimaru got ‘furious’ when Mjurran first appeared (from Episode 31). Furukawa-san believes that scenes of enraged Benimaru are factors that tell a lot about him. This scene from the said episode reminds him of that factor once again.

He then commented that Benimaru’s face in a furious state is so good, and didn’t forget to request the staff to send it to him as a sparkling card.

Maeno-san’s best moment: The battle between Diablo and Razen (from Episode 35). As his “favorite scene without Veldora in it,” Maeno-san further commented that both Veldora and Diablo are strong, but their personalities and what’s inside are completely different.

He also comments that it would be interesting if they were to face off in the future. He seems to fully enjoys Diablo’s charm. He then significantly concluded that Episode 35 has a lot of great scenes, but he guesses something will happen in Episode 36.

Okasaki-san’s best moment: Rimuru saved Mjurran by pretending to kill her (from Episode 32). She felt how big Rimuru’s capacity was as a master. She then asserted that she loves seeing the bond between Youm, Grucius, and Mjurran.

This scene was so great that Maeno-san excluded it from his selection on purpose, saying his choice would be the same to others’ if he picked that.

Cast comments on the third key visual reveal

The third key visual for the next part of season 2 has been revealed to the audience for the first time. Maeno-san asks who’s that certain guy besides Rimuru. This key visual is also available on the anime’s official website.

The Slime Diaries

Following the release of the latest key visual, Okasaki-san then introduced us to The Slime Diaries. Okasaki-san explains that this work is a “slime life-type reincarnation entertainment,” and a promo video was also shown to the audience.

Furukawa-san said that there’s a lot of potential in The Slime Diaries because you can see various faces and scenes for each character: If you like Tensura, I think you can’t miss this. Maeno-san stressed that Veldora is also in it, to which Okasaki-san summed it up: Veldora and Eren are both in it.

The Slime Diaries’ theme song “Brand new diary” is sung by Kumada-san with voice actor Takuma Terashima providing the lyrics. Kumada-san said that the song is full of Tensura elements, as it has words that appear in the original story.

Terashima-san shared his message of support as well. Kumada-san further told the audience that the theme song is refreshing and energetic with a fast pace.

Tensura smartphone game announced

Okasaki-san then announces that Tensura will have a smartphone game, “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: How a Demon Lord and a Dragon Formed a Federation.” The game, to be developed by WFS and published by Bandai Namco, surprised the cast:

Furukawa-san: “I was surprised at the amazing quality.”
Kumada-san: “It’s so cool”
Maeno-san: “It moves beautifully.”

Okasaki-san also showed the thick script that was handed to her during the recording. Having recorded a huge amount voices of about 3,000 words, she appealed that it’s going to be an extensive game.

The game is set to be released this year, with a close beta test to be conducted before release.

The event has concluded with final messages from the cast:

Kumada-san: “Thank you very much for watching. I’m glad if I was able to convey even a little bit of charm of ‘Tensura’. I’m also looking forward to future developments! Let’s look forward to it together! Thank you very much!

Furukawa-san: It’s been a bit of a rush delivery, but I think it’s a blessing to have so much information, so many developments, and so many things to follow. I’m very happy to see that ‘Tensura’ is also being developed into various derivative works, and I hope that we can all follow ‘Tensura’ together. Please continue to support us. Thank you very much for your time today.

Maeno-san: Thank you very much for watching. There will be probably be more of Veldora playing an active role in the second part of ‘Tensura season 2’ and ‘The Slime Diaries’, so I hope you’ll look forward to it. Please continue to support ‘Tensura’ in the future.

Okasaki-san: It was a very happy stage with a lot of information that was never released before. Although it was a live broadcast, it was a really happy time for the four of us to be able to talk while feeling the presence of everyone watching us through the camera. I hope we can have another event like this, where we can talk about our love for ‘Tensura’ together. Thank you all very much!
