The new trailer for The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2 is finally here, along with a new key visual and cast member information. The anime was once again confirmed to air in April 2022, after previously being delayed.

Masato Jinbo (Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2Wei!, Shakugan no Shana) is directing season 2 of The Rising of the Shield Hero. Studio Kinema Citrus (Made in Abyss, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0) is animating the series, along with the Korean DR Movie studio. Kaito Ishikawa and Asami Seto will also return as the voices of Naofumi and Raphtalia. In addition, Rina Hidaka and Maaya Uchida are returning as Filo and Melty. Watch the new trailer:
The video features the anime’s opening song titled “Bring Back” by the Japanese band, MADKID, that also performed the opening theme for season 1. Chiai Fujikawa will also return to perform the ending song for the second season. In addition, we can also hear the new cast member, Kana Hanazawa, who is joining the cast as Ost Horai.
The first season of the anime aired from January until June 2019 and had a total of 25 episodes. Kinema Citrus animated the first season, while Takao Abo directed it.
The Rising of the Shield Hero is a Japanese web novel series by Aneko Yusagi. Media Factory is serializing a light novel adaptation with Seira Minami’s illustrations since 2013 and as of now, it has 22 volumes available. A manga adaptation by Aiya Kyu is also being published by the same publisher in Monthly Comic Flapper magazine.
One Piece Books has also licensed The Rising of the Shield Hero light novel series in English. Season 2 of the anime starts at the 6th volume of the series:
After their battle with Glass, Naofumi and his friends work to revitalize the Cal Mira islands before returning to the castle. On the ship back to Melromarc, they meet a young girl named Rishia, who claims to have been tricked and abandoned by her companions. Naofumi, sympathizing with her fate, agrees to listen to her story, and she joins the party. Eventually, Naofumi discovers that she has a talent for transformation magic, but before they can discuss it, someone comes running to beg the heroes for assistance. A monster wearing something like a turtle shell needs to be chased off. The monster is so powerful that even the mightiest adventurers cannot defeat him—so what hope is there for Naofumi? Those answers and more in volume 6 as the epic fantasy continues!
