An anime adaptation of the Tohai – Ura Rate Mahjong Tohai Roku manga has been announced with a 2024 premiere date. A teaser visual and trailer have been released as part of the announcement:
EAST FISH STUDIO (Fragtime, Ten Count, A Condition Called Love) will be animating the adaptation under the direction of Jun Hatori. Mariko Kunisawa is doing the series composition, Sayaka Anesaki on the character designs, while Yusuke Shirato and Yuki Kishida are composing the music.
The anime will adapt the manga of the same title written and illustrated by Koji Shinasaka. It was originally serialized in the
Young Champion published by AKITASHOTEN’s Young Champion. The first series was published from June 2006 to April 2011, then the sequel manga, Tohai: Hitobashira-hen from May 2011 to May 2017. Meanwhile, a third series, Tohai: Minagoroshi-hen, was serialized from September 2017 to June 2021. The latest installment, Tohai: Cold Girl, has been serialized in Young Champion since September 2021.
The series follows Kei, also known as “K of Ice,” a high school boy who frequents the underground mahjong parlor teeming with money, women, black market organs, and desires. Despite facing various hardships, Kei navigates the underworld of mahjong while surviving.
