Tokyo Revengers Episode 1: Time Travel Train-kun

Tokyo Revengers Episode 1 released last Saturday, and it’s another one of the shows to keep an eye on! Starts off with the MC watching TV, seeing news about an accident. His one and only girlfriend from middle school died, along with her brother. He begins to contemplate his life so far, and gets to the train station being sad that he’s still a virgin and hasn’t done anything. Then someone comes up from behind and pushes him onto the track, leaving him to die by train-kun. However, time slows down as it approaches, and we don’t see the typical isekai. Instead, Tokyo Revengers episode 1 shows that it will be a time travel story, started with the train-kun.

Tokyo Revengers episode1 – Train-kun

Instead of another world, he gets sent 12 years into the past. He’s back to being a ‘delinquent’, and remembers parts of his life he’d forgotten. We see his friends, and realize they’re just posing as delinquents. Their plan to teach another school’s 2nd years a lesson backfires, and they get beaten by the 3rd years instead, and become their errand boys. Takemichi Hanagaki, our MC, remembers the event, but unfortunately only when it’s already too late so he can’t avoid it. It turns out this moment is what made him change his lifestyle and run away in the original timeline. He visits Hinata, the girlfriend who’d died in the future, and cries upon seeing her. It seems they are dating at that point in time, and she seems nice so far.

After he leaves, he sulks on a swing when some bullies pick on a kid. He has channels his gagster and saves the kid, who turns out to be his girlfriend’s brother. They talk a bit, and he tells him to remember the day the accident will happen in the future, and to protect his sister. The kid believes him 100%, and actually writes it down. Soon after, Takamichi wakes up in his original timeline, with no injuries. It turns out that the little brother joined the police and worked hard, but still didn’t manage to stop his sister from dying. He did manage to save Takamichi though, and we’re likely to see more time travelling in the future, although not sure if it will always be the train-kun.
