Tower of God Season 2 is officially in the works, as announced earlier by the WEBTOON’s Twitter account. A visual has been revealed:
An announcement PV was also revealed. It features a recap from the first season and some new scenes that serve as a teaser for what is to come:
The announcement for Tower of God Season 2 was followed by a number of mishaps. The official Webtoon Twitter account announced it at 10:30 BST, only to delete the tweet 20 minutes later. The announcement video on the English Tower of God anime profile was also posted and then deleted. While all this was happening, Crunchyroll (which runs the anime’s Twitter page) was hosting an industry panel on the Crunchyroll Expo where new announcements were being revealed. Even though the panel was streamed, it was nearly impossible to watch due to constant buffering and the video going offline every 30 seconds.
The anime adaptation of SIU’s popular webtoon first premiered in the Spring 2020 anime season. It was animated by Telecom Animation Film and it was presented as one of the Crunchyroll Originals to overseas audiences. The season had 13 episodes and was directed by Takashi Sano. Erika Yoshida did the series composition and wrote some of the episode scripts. Masashi Kudo and Miho Tanino did the character designs; Tanino was also a chief animation director. Kevin Penkin composed the music.
The main cast included:
SIU’s Tower of God started serialization in 2010 on Naver’s Webtoon platform and has since received a printed edition by Young Com. The manhwa was translated to English by Line Webtoon in July 2014 and is currently slightly behind the Korean release.
SIU (short for Slave in Utero) sent a message about the upcoming anime sequel:
The webtoon is currently on hiatus, following an announcement by SIU who stated that he wants to take time off and dedicate himself to making something both he and the fans would be proud of. As of now, the 133rd episode (chapter) will be the final one before the hiatus begins.
Crunchyroll is streaming the anime and describes the plot as:
Reach the top, and everything will be yours. At the top of the tower exists everything in this world, and all of it can be yours. You can become a god. This is the story of the beginning and the end of Rachel, the girl who climbed the tower so she could see the stars, and Bam, the boy who needed nothing but her.
