The Unnamed Memory anime revealed a new teaser trailer and visual earlier today during the 30th Dengeki Bungo Summer Festival. The adaptation will premiere next year, as it has been delayed due to production issues.
Unnamed Memory anime is based on a light novel series written by Kuji Furumiya. It originally started on the user-generated content website Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2012 and was later picked up by ASCII Media Works and published under their Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint with illustrations by Chibi. The light novel serialization lasted from January 2019 to April 2021 and was concluded after six volumes. A manga adaptation with art by Naoki Koshimizu is currently ongoing.
Yen Press licensed both the light novel and the manga in English and describes the plot of the light novel as:
“My wish as champion is for you to descend the tower and be my wife.”
Climbing a deadly tower, Oscar seeks the power of its master, the Witch of the Azure Moon. He hopes her incredible magic can break a curse that will kill any woman he takes for a wife. When the prince sees how beautiful Tinasha is, though, he has a better idea-since she’s surely strong enough to survive his curse, she should just marry him instead! Tinasha isn’t keen on the idea, but agrees to live with Oscar in the royal castle for a year while researching the spell placed on the prince. The witch’s pretty face hides several lifetimes of dark secrets, however-secrets that begin resurfacing…
The manga’s synopsis has a different point of view:
Once upon a time in a faraway land, a beautiful witch lived atop a tall tower with no intention of descending. Instead, she awaited the brave knight who would overcome many perils to meet her. Should someone triumph over her many traps, she would grant them any one wish. One day, such a courageous prince did arrive, and he asked her to rid him of the curse preventing him from siring an heir. But the curse of another witch cannot be so easily lifted, and the only way to save his bloodline… is to become his bride?!
