The anime film Bubble from WIT Studio is now available for streaming on Netflix worldwide. The theatrical premiere is set for May 13 in Japan. Check out the latest trailer:
Bubble is an anime film directed by Tetsuro Araki, with Takeshi Obata’s original character designs. Gen Urobuchi is writing the screenplay. The theme songs for film are “Bubble” by Eve ft. Uta as the opening theme, and “Ja ne, mata ne” by Riria as the ending theme.
The cast for Bubble includes Jun Shison and Riria, who are voicing the main duo, Hibiki and Uta. Mamoru Miyano, Yuki Kaji, Alice Hirose, and Sayaka Senbongi are also part of the cast as Shin, Kai, Makoto, and Usagi.
Araki is a well-known animator and anime director, who has worked on titles such as Attack on Titan, Death Note, Highschool of the Dead, and Guilty Crown. In a recent interview with Oricon, he discussed the inspirations behind the movie. One of them included a mermaid illustration Araki drew, which inspired producer Genki Kawamura, who is also working on the movie. “I thought an original story with the Ningyo motif might be interesting and so the story moved,” says Kawamura.

The story is set in Tokyo, after bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down upon the world. Cut off from the outside world, Tokyo has become a playground for a group of young people who have lost their families, acting as a battlefield for parkour team battles as they leap from building to building. Hibiki, a young ace known for his dangerous play style, makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea. His life is saved by Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. The pair then hear a unique sound audible only to them. Why did Uta appear before Hibiki? Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world.
