Zombieland Saga: Revenge Episode 8 — Yugiri and Saga

“Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 8 is out! We jump back in time to the Meiji era to meet the beautiful Yugiri. This episode not only puts the courtesan in the spotlight but also gives clues to our zombie revenge story. Saga must be saved!

Zombieland Saga: Revenge Episode 8 — Yugiri, the Legendary Oiran

“Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 8 begins as we see Yugiri looking elegant and beautiful in a lovely kimono. Everyone praises her amazing abilities as the popular and legendary Oiran. We also discover that a high-ranking government official has redeemed her. Unfortunately, the kind-hearted man passes away but before his death, he secures Yugiri’s freedom and well-being.

Yugiri now lives by herself in Saga. She doesn’t know anyone and the locals also don’t know her. However, she does teach some dance lessons to some girls. At the town, we meet a young man named Kichi who passionately gives out flyers to people saying, “Bring back Saga!” Right after, we also meet his friend named Itou. A history lesson comes along and we learn how Saga had been erased from the map during the Meiji era.

Yugiri Meets Kichi

Zombieland Saga: Revenge Episode 8 — Yugiri’s pinwheel flies to Kichi

One day, while the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, Yugiri and Kichi have a fateful meeting. It’s such a lovely scene! Kichi is mesmerized by Yugiri’s beauty and flusters a lot. Itou warns him not to fall for her and says that she “lives in a different world.” Nevertheless, Kichi pays a visit to Yugiri’s home to give her a red comb as a gift. Yugiri also visits Kichi’s home to give him herbal medicine. We then meet Kichi’s weird Gramps. The old man took in Kichi after he lost his father in battle. To repay his debt, Kichi wants to bring back the “Saga” his Gramps cares so much about.

“Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 8 is so far very intriguing. During dinner, Itou and Yugiri have a chat. Itou says that although the country is changing, it is still twisted in its ways. He hopes that Kichi will give up from clinging to Saga’s old name. Yugiri, however, says otherwise that Kichi dreams of a new Saga with a fresh start. The episode comes to a close as Kichi meets some people interested in his pamphlets. Itou also discreetly passes a suspicious note to another man.

It’s All Coming Together

What an interesting episode! “Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 8 feels very different from the usual vibe. Even the art and animation are especially nice. It definitely has a political and historical drama feel. This episode unveils some deep lore, mysteries, and clues. Finally, all the pieces are coming together.

My favorite part about this episode are the characters. There’s the fun cameos or look-alikes of our zombie idols which probably tease their ancestors. However, we meet Kichi’s character. I really enjoyed the fact that Kichi is voiced by Kotaro’s voice actor. Is he Kotaro’s ancestor? Furthermore, we meet the weird Gramps who looks just like the bartender and also eats squid! Kichi mentions that “he has the ability to bring back the dead” and right then, Romero appears. Wait…what?! There’s just so much information teased in this episode here and there. No concrete answer yet, but there’s definitely something there about the zombies.

Zombieland Saga: Revenge Episode 8 — Yugiri keeps the pinwheel

Honestly, I’m so happy to finally have an episode about Yugiri. She looked so beautiful and mesmerizing. Seeing her in this backstory is just wonderful. Kichi’s character is also really nice and warm. Itou, however, is definitely suspicious and shady.

We all know that the modern Saga will be back so surely Kichi will succeed in his goals. However, as the plot unfolds in the next episode, we also know that it will end in tragedy for Yuguri. I’m not sure if I’m ready for that. Anyway, “Zombieland Saga: Revenge” episode 8 gives the whole “Saving Saga” thing a lot more meaning now. We don’t have all the answers yet, but it’s an interesting development!
